After graduation, it didn't take me long to realize that most of the people I put my hands on had chronic pain patterns and symptoms that just did not go away with traditional relaxation massage. While Swedish massage is indeed beneficial to your overall general health and does provide significant relaxation benefits, the fact remains that, over time the same pain patterns usually return.
It was this realization that led me to discover the outstanding, long term relief possible using the CranioSacral Therapy (CST) and Myofascial Release (MFR) modalities that I have elected to specialize in. Historically, most allopathic doctors have been taught to address symptoms, most notably pain (with muscle relaxers or pain medications) without regard to the actual cause. Our body's fascial system, or connective tissue (which serves as a defense mechanism against trauma) is often the root cause of your pain patterns. Think of this system as a continuous three dimensional web that extends without interruption from head to toe, surrounding every muscle, nerve, blood vessel, and bone down to the cellular level. This web has a 2000 lb/sq.in. tensile strength. When you experience trauma, the brain causes that web to clamp down on everything at/around the trauma site in an effort to prevent further injury. The problem comes when the initial injury is healed, but the fascial system doesn't release it's grip on the nerves, blood vessels, etc. and you start experiencing pain in other areas that didn't use to be painful.
When we are injured, whether it be from the initial trauma of birth that we all experience, or from a more classic example of trauma, whether major or minor in nature, other physiological functions we take for granted may suddenly become affected (for example: several months after a whiplash injury you've gained a lot of weight or become constipated and you don't know why). Being able to recognize, find, and remove the CAUSE of these SYMPTOMS is what sets the CST and MFR therapist apart from the typical therapist.
CST's primary focus is on the craniosacral system, which is the deepest fascia in the body; the internal physiological system that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord, acting as the shock absorber to these crucial organs. An aside to trauma is the encapsulation by the body of the force of impact from the trauma, referred to as an energy cyst, which quite often will hold not only the physical part of the trauma, but the emotional (visual, auditory, proprioceptive, even olfactory) component that is often not even addressed during most rehabilitative processes. These energy cysts must be released as well before the whole body is able to heal. CST uses extremely light pressures, typically 5-10 grams or roughly the weight of a nickel (on occasion it can be more) to engage the tissues until they begin to move, we follow these subtle movements, allowing the body to essentially heal itself.
MFR's primary focus is on the three dimensional web and in unwinding the restrictions that occur within that web following trauma. Using a gentle cross-hand technique to impart a sustained stretch, we sink into the fascial system with varying pressures, "being a soft as we can be but as hard as we need to be" and a "do no harm" philosophy, to again follow the tissues as they begin to relax, move, and return to their normal state of tonus. This then allows normal nerve innervation and blood flow to return to the affected areas, thereby allowing the healing phase to complete, returning the client to their usual activity levels. These two modalities complement each other so much so, that many of the techniques seem the same and it is difficult to tell what technique is actually being used. At the heart of both modalities is a whole mind/body approach to healing; you cannot separate one from the other and hope to achieve lasting results.
I also provide equine bodywork services as well, which offers an outstanding adjunct to equine chiropractic and acupuncture. The equine athlete is constantly being called upon to perform at high levels of endurance, and deserve at least the same level of attention with regard to overall body maintenance and recuperation that we humans do. If you've noticed a problem with changing leads, collection, inability to perform at peak levels, repeat injuries, or unexplained lameness, MFR and CST can and will improve your horses performance!

These techniques have shown to be extremely effective with such conditions as: Migraines, Scoliosis, Torticollis, ADD/ADHD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)/Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome (PLMS), Fibromyalgia, Autism, Depression, Acute Ear Infections, Dyslexia, Post-Mastectomy Complications, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Chronic neck & back pain, and a host of others too numerous to mention.
There is NO reason why you should continue to live with constant pain!
